230th Anniversary
This year is the 230th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!
In honor of this momentous event, Evergreen Bank, with the help of the people of our community, has created a public art display for your enjoyment. It begins with our national bird, the Bald Eagle. As you come down 6th Street you will see 23 life-size replicas of this beautiful symbol of America flying above the streets. The eagles are centered around seven, 20 ft high, steel "trees". Some of the eagles are perched on boulders on the side walks.
There are 23 monuments, one for each decade since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The monuments begin with two marble columns that hold a bronze shield that is between 2 U.S. flags, one with 13 stars and the other with 50 stars. On the top of the shield is a bronze Bald Eagle.
On the face of each shield is an original paint of a significant event for each decade. You can also stop and visit the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell in "Liberty Square" behind the Chamber of Commerce Downtown Welcome Center on 6th and G Street.
